Distribution: Occurring chiefly west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to Oregon, also in scattered locations in eastern North America.

Habitat: Forest edge, hillsides, parks, wastelots, and other disturbed sites.

Flowers: June-September

Origin: Introduced; native to Europe and Africa

Growth Duration: Perennial

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Description:
General:

Strong, woody, climbing vine to 20 m. long.

Leaves:

Leaves pinnately compound with 5 narrowly to broadly ovate-cordate leaflets 3-6 cm. long, entire or shallowly 3-lobed.

Flowers:

Flowers perfect, in several-flowered bracteate panicles; sepals 4, creamy white, narrowly oblong-lanceolate, 6-15 mm. long; petals none; stamens and pistils numerous.

Fruits:

Achenes hairy; styles persistent, 2.5-5 cm. long.
